Futur Simple (Simple Future) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb former
Introduction to the verb former
The English translation of the French verb “former” is “to form” or “to shape.” It is pronounced “for-may.”
The word “former” comes from the Latin word “formare,” meaning “to form” or “to shape.” In everyday French, it is most often used in the Futur Simple tense, which is used to talk about actions or events in the future.
Three simple examples of its usage in this tense are:
- Je formerai une équipe pour le tournoi de football. (I will form a team for the football tournament.)
- Tu formeras ton propre avis sur la question. (You will form your own opinion on the matter.)
- Ils formeront une alliance pour résoudre le problème. (They will form an alliance to solve the problem.)
In all three sentences, “former” is used in the Futur Simple tense to indicate a future action of forming or shaping something. In English, the verb “to form” can also be used in the future tense in similar sentences, but in French, the Futur Simple tense is the appropriate way to express future actions.
