Introduction to the verb alléguer
The English translation of the French verb alléguer is “to allege” or “to claim”. It is pronounced as “ah-leh-gueh”.
The word alléguer originated from the Old French word “alleguer” which comes from the Latin word “allegare” meaning “to send for, to bring forth as evidence”. It is most often used in every day French in the Passé Composé (Present Perfect) tense, which is used to talk about actions that were completed in the past.
