Futur Proche (Near Future) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb carier
Introduction to the verb carier
The English translation of the French verb carier is “to carry” or “to transport.” It is pronounced as “kah-rye” in the infinitive form.
The word carier comes from the Old French word “carryer,” which ultimately derives from the Latin word “carrus,” meaning “cart.” In everyday French, it is most often used in the Futur Proche tense, which is formed with the auxiliary verb “aller” followed by the infinitive form of the verb.
Here are three simple examples of how carier is used in the Futur Proche tense:
- Je vais carier mon sac à dos demain. (I am going to carry my backpack tomorrow.)
- Est-ce que tu vas carier les courses ce soir? (Are you going to carry the groceries tonight?)
- Ils vont carier les meubles dans le camion. (They are going to transport the furniture in the truck.)
Note that in the first two examples, carier is used in a literal sense of physically carrying something, while in the third example, it is used more abstractly to mean transporting something.
