Introduction to the verb continuer
The English translation of the French verb continuer is “to continue/to carry on.” It is pronounced as “kohn-tee-nue”.
The word “continuer” originated from the Latin word “continuare”, meaning “to connect/to join together.” In everyday French, it is most commonly used in the Conditionnel Passé tense, which expresses a hypothetical or uncertain action in the past.
Three simple examples of its usage in this tense are:
