Introduction to the verb jouer
The English translation of the French verb jouer is “to play.” It is pronounced as “zhw-ay” in its infinitive form.
The word jouer comes from the Latin word “iocus” meaning “game” or “play.” It entered the French language in the 12th century and has been used in everyday language ever since.
In the Futur Antérieur tense, jouer is most often used to indicate an action that will have been completed in the future before another action takes place. This tense is formed by using the future tense of the auxiliary verb avoir or être and the past participle of jouer.
