Futur Proche (Near Future) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb agresser
Introduction to the verb agresser
The English translation of the French verb agresser is “to attack” or “to assault.” The infinitive form of agresser is pronounced “ah-greh-say.”
The word agresser comes from the Latin word “aggressus,” meaning “to approach or attack.” It entered the French language in the 15th century and has been used to describe physical attacks as well as verbal or emotional aggression.
In everyday French, agresser is most often used in the Futur Proche tense, which is used to talk about actions or events that will happen in the near future. This tense is formed by using the present tense of the verb “aller” (to go) followed by the infinitive form of the verb.
Example 1: Je vais agresser mon voisin demain. (I am going to attack my neighbor tomorrow.)
Example 2: Nous allons agresser le cambrioleur avec nos armes. (We are going to attack the burglar with our weapons.)
Example 3: Ils vont agresser les manifestants s’ils continuent à bloquer la route. (They are going to attack the protesters if they continue to block the road.)
In these examples, agresser is used to express physical attacks, but it can also be used in a more figurative sense, such as in the sentence “Il a été agressé par les critiques” which means “He was attacked by the criticism.”
