Tutoyer means to use the familiar “tu” form of address in French, as opposed to the formal “vous” form.
Examples of tutoyer in Every Day Usage
- Tu peux me tutoyer, on se connaît depuis longtemps. (You can use “tu” with me, we’ve known each other for a long time.)
- Il m’a tutoyé dès notre première rencontre. (He used “tu” with me from our first meeting.)
