Introduction to the verb coter
The English translation of the French verb coter is “to rate/to cost”. The infinitive form is pronounced as “koh-ter”.
The word coter comes from the Latin word “quotare” which means “to count/to estimate”. It entered the French language in the late 14th century and originally referred to the act of counting or estimating the value of something. Over time, it evolved to also mean “to rate” or “to cost”.
