Introduction to the verb nacrer
The English translation of the French verb nacrer is “to nacre” or “to mother-of-pearl”. It is pronounced “nah-kreh”.
The word nacrer comes from the noun nacre, meaning “mother-of-pearl”, which in turn comes from the Arabic word naqqāra, meaning “sea shell”. In everyday French, nacrer is most commonly used in the Plus-que-parfait tense, which is the past perfect tense in English.
Three examples of its usage in the Plus-que-parfait tense are:
