Introduction to the verb patter
The English translation of the French verb “patter” is “to babble” or “to prattle.” It is pronounced as “pa-tay” in the infinitive form.
The word “patter” comes from the Old French word “patir,” meaning “to suffer or endure.” In modern French, it is most often used in the Plus-que-parfait (Pluperfect) tense, which is the past tense used for actions that occurred before another past action.
