The English translation of the French verb créditer is “to credit.” The infinitive form is pronounced “kred-ee-tey” with the stress on the second syllable.

The word créditer comes from the Latin word “credere,” which means “to believe” or “to trust.” In everyday French, créditer is most often used in financial contexts, such as when talking about bank accounts, credit cards, or financial transactions.

In the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense, créditer is used to express an action that had already been completed before another past event. This tense is formed by using the auxiliary verb “avoir” in the Subjonctif Imparfait form, followed by the past participle of créditer.

Here are three simple examples of créditer in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense:

  1. J’avais crédité mon compte avant de partir en vacances. (I had credited my account before leaving on vacation.)
  2. Tu avais crédité la facture avant qu’elle ne soit due. (You had credited the invoice before it was due.)
  3. Le directeur avait crédité les salaires avant que les employés ne partent en grève. (The manager had credited the salaries before the employees went on strike.)

In all of these examples, the action of créditer had already been completed before another past event (such as leaving for vacation, the invoice becoming due, and the employees going on strike). The use of the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense indicates that this was a past action and that it had been completed before the other event.
