Introduction to the verb enliser
The English translation of enliser is “to get bogged down” or “to get stuck”. The infinitive form is pronounced as “ah(n)-lee-zay”.
Enliser comes from the Old French word “lis” which means “mud” or “slime”. It is most often used in everyday French in the subjonctif plus-que-parfait tense, which is used to express a hypothetical situation in the past.
