Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait (Subjunctive Pluperfect) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb légender
Introduction to the verb légender
The English translation of the French verb légender is “to caption.” It is pronounced as “lay-zhun-day.”
Légender comes from the Latin word “legenda” meaning “things to be read.” It is most commonly used in everyday French to describe the process of adding captions or legends to images or photographs.
In the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense, légender is used to express a hypothetical or unreal action that took place before another past action or event. It is formed by using the auxiliary verb “avoir” in the imperfect subjunctive form followed by the past participle of légender, which is “légendé.”
Three examples of légender in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense are:
- J’aurais aimé que tu aies légendé ces photos avant de les publier. (I wish you had captioned these photos before sharing them.)
- Il est possible que nous ayons légendé la mauvaise image par erreur. (It is possible that we had captioned the wrong image by mistake.)
- Il était important que vous ayez légendé ces photos avant la fin de la journée. (It was important that you had captioned these photos before the end of the day.)
