Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait (Subjunctive Pluperfect) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb former
Introduction to the verb former
The English translation of the French verb former is “to form” or “to shape.” The infinitive form is pronounced as “for-may.”
The origin of the word former can be traced back to the Latin word “formare,” meaning “to form” or “to shape.” It is most often used in French to describe the action of molding something or someone into a certain shape or form.
In the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense, former is used to express a hypothetical or unreal action that took place before another past action. It is typically used with the auxiliary verb “avoir” and the past participle “formé.”
Three simple examples of its usage in this tense are:
-

-
Nous aurions formé une alliance si vous aviez accepté notre proposition. (We would have formed an alliance if you had accepted our proposal.)
