Introduction to the verb discuter
The English translation of the French verb discuter is “to discuss” or “to debate.” The infinitive form is pronounced “dee-skoo-tay.”
The word discuter originated from the Latin word “discutere” which means “to shake off” or “to scatter.” In Old French, it took on the meaning of “to examine” or “to investigate.” Today, it is most often used in everyday French to mean “to talk about” or “to exchange ideas and opinions on a topic.”
