Plus-que-parfait (Pluperfect) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb gerber
Introduction to the verb gerber
The English translation of the French verb gerber is “to vomit”. It is pronounced “jehr-bay”.
Gerber comes from the Old French word “giber”, which means “to belch” or “to vomit”. It is most often used in everyday French in the Plus-que-parfait tense, which is the past perfect tense.
Some examples of gerber in the Plus-que-parfait tense are:
- J’avais gerbé toute la nuit. (I had vomited all night.)
- Tu avais gerbé après avoir trop bu. (You had vomited after drinking too much.)
- Il avait gerbé dans les toilettes. (He had vomited in the toilet.)
In these examples, gerber is used to describe a past action that had been completed before another past action. So, the Plus-que-parfait tense is used to show that the vomiting had already happened before something else happened in the past.
