Introduction to the verb classer
The English translation of the French verb classer is “to classify” or “to sort.” It is pronounced “klah-say.”
The verb classer comes from the Latin word “classis” meaning “class” or “category.” In everyday French, it is most often used in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense to express a past action that is hypothetical or contrary to reality.
Example 1: J’aurais aimé que tu aies classé les papiers avant de partir.
Translation: I wish you had classified the papers before leaving.
