Introduction to the verb léser
The English translation of the French verb léser is “to harm” or “to injure.” It is pronounced as “leh-zay” in the infinitive form.
Léser comes from the Latin verb “laedere” which also means “to harm” or “to injure.” It is most often used in everyday French in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense, which expresses an action that was completed before another action in the past.
Example 1: Il fallait que j’eusse lésé mes amis avant qu’ils me pardonnent. (I had to have harmed my friends before they forgave me.)
