Introduction to the verb afféager
The English translation of the French verb afféager is “to hire” or “to lease.” It is pronounced ah-fay-ah-jay.
The word afféager comes from the Old French word afiagier, which means “to give in fee.” It is most often used in everyday French in the Conditionnel Présent tense, which expresses a hypothetical or possible action in the present. It is formed by adding the conditional ending -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient to the stem afféage-.
Here are three examples of afféager used in the Conditionnel Présent tense:
