Futur Antérieur (Future Anterior) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb accouer
Introduction to the verb accouer
The English translation of the French verb accouer is “to dock” or “to moor.” The infinitive form of accouer is pronounced “ah-koo-ay.”
Accouer comes from the Old French word “acouer,” meaning “to approach” or “to come closer.” It is most often used in every day French in the Futur Antérieur tense, which is used to describe actions that will have occurred in the future. This tense is formed by using the future tense of the auxiliary verb “avoir” or “être,” followed by the past participle of the verb.
Examples of accouer in the Futur Antérieur tense:
- Demain, j’aurai accoué mon bateau au port. (Tomorrow, I will have docked my boat at the port.)
- Ils seront déjà accoués à la côte lorsque nous arriverons. (They will already have moored on the coast by the time we arrive.)
- Quand j’aurai accoué mon bateau, nous pourrons partir en mer. (Once I have docked my boat, we can set sail.)
In each of these examples, accouer is used to describe the action of docking or mooring a boat in the future. It is often used in the context of sailing and boating, but can also be used in a more general sense to describe approaching or coming closer to something.
