Plus-que-parfait (Pluperfect) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb gîter
Introduction to the verb gîter
The English translation of the French verb gîter is “to lodge” or “to put up.” It is pronounced as “zhee-tay” in the infinitive form.
The word gîter comes from the Latin word “jacere” which means “to lie down.” It is most commonly used in every day French to refer to the action of staying or lodging somewhere, usually for a short period of time.
In the Plus-que-parfait tense, gîter is used to describe an action that had been completed before another past action. It is formed by conjugating the auxiliary verb “avoir” in the imperfect tense and adding the past participle of gîter (gîté).
