Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait (Subjunctive Pluperfect) Tense Conjugation of the French Verb fraser
Introduction to the verb fraser
The English translation of the French verb fraser is “to rub” or “to rub against”. The infinitive form, fraser, is pronounced “frah-zay”.
Fraser comes from the Old French verb “frasser”, which means “to rub” or “to chafe”. It is most often used in everyday French in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense, which expresses a past hypothetical action or situation. This tense is formed by combining the imperfect subjunctive of the auxiliary verb “avoir” or “être” with the past participle of the main verb.
Here are three simple examples of fraser used in the Subjonctif Plus-que-parfait tense with their respective English translations:
- J’avais frotté ma main contre le mur avant de me rendre compte que c’était une erreur. (I had rubbed my hand against the wall before realizing it was a mistake.)
- Elle aurait caressé le chat s’il n’était pas parti en courant. (She would have rubbed the cat if it hadn’t run away.)
- Nous serions restés plus longtemps à la plage si nous n’avions pas été épuisés de nous frotter contre les vagues. (We would have stayed longer at the beach if we hadn’t been exhausted from rubbing against the waves.)
