Introduction to the verb chaptaliser
The English translation of the French verb chaptaliser is “to chaptalize.” It is pronounced “sha-pah-tee-lee-zay.”
Chaptaliser comes from the name of French chemist Jean-Antoine Chaptal, who discovered the process of adding sugar to wine in order to increase its alcohol content. In everyday French, chaptaliser is often used in the Futur Proche tense, which is formed by using the auxiliary verb “aller” followed by the infinitive form of the verb.
