Introduction to the verb lessiver
The English translation of the French verb lessiver is “to wash.” It is pronounced as “le-see-vay.”
The word lessiver comes from the Latin word “lavare,” meaning “to wash.” In everyday French, it is most often used to refer to the act of washing or cleaning a surface or object. In the plus-que-parfait tense, which is the past perfect tense in English, lessiver is used to indicate an action that was completed in the past before another action.
Examples:

- Elle avait lessivé le sol avant que la fête commence. (She had washed the floor before the party started.)

In all three examples, the action of washing was completed in the past before another action took place. The verb lessiver is conjugated differently depending on the subject and tense, but its meaning remains the same – to wash.
